One Thing Leads to Another

Isn't that the name of a song? Well, in this case, it is SO TRUE! Today I decided to get my rear satellite speaker to our surround system hooked back up. I disconnected it when I painted over the purple walls with the cream color.
LONG before shot of the satellite speaker located in the corner of the room behind the door. In this shot, the cord is merely nailed to the perimeter of door frame. Not attractive.
Shot of the door area once the walls were painted cream.
I decided I'd install a white cord cover around the perimeter of the door to mask the speaker cord's appearance as well as protect the cord from my devilish cat.
Here's a close-up of the cord cover. It has a slight opening to guide a cord into and an adhesive strip that runs the length of it.

This is where things started to go awry. When I placed the cord cover on top of the door frame, it didn't want to lay perfectly flat due to sloppy paint and plaster repairs that had been done above the door over the years (not by me). So I decided to chip away at the crud so the cord cover would lay flat. In my vigorous chipping, parts of the wall crumbled away and old painted-over wallpaper eagerly came off of the wall. The next thing I knew, my wall looked like THIS!
So much for having just recently been painted!
It's difficult to tell in this picture, but in this particular section, the ancient wallpaper wasn't even adhered to the wall anymore! It merely stood upright due to all of the years of paint keeping it upright!
It's so much fun picking at wallpaper when it comes off so easily!
It wasn't long before the wall looked liked this:
That black bracket next to the mirror is where the satellite speaker goes.
And since I was right there, I couldn't help but pick at some spots on the door as well.

Now it looks like this:
The paint around the window panes and the lower inset came off with little persuasion.
I had to wrap up my project for the weekend because my hubby came home from work. I don't want him to have to deal with my messes when he's here. So needless to say, I didn't get my cord covers for my speaker installed today. Looks like I'll be doing some wall repair, caulking, and painting first. Here's to better luck next week!

Goodbye, Beloved Purple!

In this household, we are all big fans of purple. We especially like how the purple walls help make the living room feel more cozy at night when watching TV and winding down before bed. But it's been that way for at least six years now, and I'm ready for a change!

So today I painted over more of the purple paint in the living room to make room for more of the cream.

Here the walls are in the process of being covered with Kilz primer. Kilz is a great paint for sealing dark colors, stains, and smells.
Here the cream finish coat has been applied to the walls. That white trim sure does pop!
While I was at it, I decided to mount the satellite speakers of our surround sound system to the walls; the speakers had been mounted to speaker stands that flanked the TV, but sometimes my golden retriever would wag her tail on one, causing it to sway and threaten to fall. They're not the most beautiful looking things; maybe next spring I'll spray paint them white and hang them higher?

I'm slowly making progress around the room! More to come!
